At the much-awaited ET Awards for Corporate Excellence on April 28 in Mumbai, a high-powered panel will discuss what needs to be done to step up private sector capex so that the economy - the world's fastest-growing - can surge to 8% expansion and beyond.

While Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have extended the work hours to 12 per day from eight for four days a week, states including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are eyeing similar changes to make their labour laws flexible. Labour, being a concurrent subject, states have the flexibility to amend the labour laws but states require the President's assent for implementation.

Lenders and the National Company Law Tribunal have approved Twinstar's bid to acquire the Videocon companies for ₹2,962 crore under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Dhoot challenged this in the Supreme Court and sought a direction to the lenders to accept his ₹31,789 crore resolution plan. On April 17, the top court sought Twinstar's response to the appeal.
