Higher food prices and unseasonal rains may trigger steeper rate hikes by RBI

The consumer price inflation rose to 7.4 percent in September led by higher food inflation which rose to 8.4 percent. At the current levels, inflation numbers have remained over the government's targeted band of 6 percent, triggering an explanation by the MPC as to the time frame within which the inflation will come within the target band of two to six percent.
